Pastoral Care is the care of individual members of our ESG family. As a church we believe that caring for one another is everyone’s responsibility and we have leadership from several groups who help move that belief into action.
Rev. Don Parsons joins ESG as our Minister of Pastoral Care as of February 1, 2017. Don can be contacted through the church office 416 481-1141 ext. 330 or by email firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Pastoral Care Coordinating Committee (PCCC) coordinates the many ways we offer support and nurture one another within our church community.
Through the ESG Cares program each person in the ESG family is contacted twice a year by email, letter, phone call or visit to check in on how he/she is doing. A dedicated, confidential email address (monitored year round), email@example.com is available for feedback and for bringing any pastoral care concerns to our attention at any time.
Trained Pastoral Care Visitors are matched with seniors confined to their home or who live in a care facility. They keep in touch through a monthly visit or telephone call. A luncheon for seniors is held at ESG in the Spring and Fall, followed by a communion service or entertainment program. This is a wonderful opportunity for those who have difficulty coming to church on a regular basis to renew old friendships and keep in touch with our church family. Where possible, rides to church on Sunday mornings may be arranged.
We are proud to offer a Wellness and Spirituality program which cares for the mind, body and spirit. Practitioners trained in Reiki and Therapeutic Touch offer treatments in the ESG Wellness Studio or in people’s homes. There are weekly yoga and meditation classes, and workshops and educational events open to the community.
Many tangible ways of caring for individuals and their families are offered through the Flower Ministry (distribution of the Sunday worship flowers), Card Ministry (to acknowledge a specific event, send a message of encouragement and hope, or just keep in touch). The ESG Angels, a program of the New Perspectives Women’s Group, is a short term weekly outreach by card to someone needing special attention. In addition, support groups are run periodically - a Grief Group is usually held annually. Our Funeral Coordinator assists our ministers in supporting bereaved families organize and facilitate the funeral service and reception for their loved one.
