Eglinton St. George’s United Church can host weddings of up to 500 guests. We are happy to collaborate with you in personalizing your vows or other aspects of your wedding ceremony. Our sanctuary, bathed in natural light from stained-glass windows on all sides, and filled with joyous organ or piano music, provides an uplifting backdrop for your marriage service.
A Christian Ceremony
Eglinton St. George’s welcomes couples wishing to be married in a Christian ceremony. Our minister, Abigail Johnson, will officiate at your wedding service. You are invited to personalize the traditional wedding vows, as well as other aspects of the service, to make your ceremony truly meaningful.
As part of our wedding program, the church’s director of music plays organ or piano for up to one hour at your service. Upon request, we can arrange a soloist to enhance your service, or you may provide your own soloist. With prior approval, you may bring additional acoustic musicians to provide further accompaniment to the service.
Hours of Use
When you choose Eglinton St. George’s, you are entitled to the use of the church building and grounds for up to three hours on your wedding day, plus a one-hour rehearsal (usually a day or two prior to the service).
Due to our location in a quiet residential area, we do not have a parking lot. However, there is plenty of street parking available on neighbouring streets. (There is a small driveway in front where the bride’s vehicle may park during your service.)
At the rear of the sanctuary is a private room that’s an ideal lounge space for brides while your guests are arriving at the church.
No-cost Settings for Your Group Photos
Our well-kept grounds—the front lawn, church steps or the elegant tranquility garden to the east of the sanctuary—make an ideal setting for photos after your ceremony. You are entitled to use this space at no charge during your rental period. In case of inclement weather, you can use various open spaces inside the church for such photos.
By special arrangement, the church may be able to accommodate deliveries of decorative flowers earlier in the day of your wedding. Corsages and boutonnieres may be briefly stored in our kitchen refrigerator prior to your service. We are pleased to accept donations of wedding flowers after your service; please let us know in advance so the church’s flower committee can arrange for their use at our next Sunday worship service.
Candelabras and Candles
You may rent our two large candlebras and candles to enhance the environment for your wedding. Please make this request known in your initial visit to the church to allow sufficient preparation time.
Marriage Preparation Courses
Couples may wish to participate in a marriage-preparation course. Upon request, our ministers can advise you about course programs and locations. The cost of such courses is not included in the church’s wedding fee.
The fee for the use of the Church Sanctuary for the wedding and rehearsal is $800. A cheque for this amount post dated one month prior to the wedding date, must be received by the Church Office to confirm your wedding booking. Honoraria for those who will be assisting at your wedding are requested as follows: the Minister ($400), Organist ($250), Wedding Coordinator ($175), Custodian ($150) and sound technician ($75).
Our Wedding Process
Initial inquiry: Please contact us by email at email@example.com or telephone at (416) 481-1141 ext, 210, indicating your desired wedding date and time of day, as well as your contact information. The church’s wedding coordinator will reply within two business days at the latest.
Meeting the minister: Once your desired wedding date/time is confirmed, you will arrange a mutually convenient time (about three months ahead) to meet the minister and discuss the details of the wedding service.
Selecting your wedding music: Several months prior to the wedding, you arrange to meet the church’s director of music to plan the music for your service.
Photography: To respect the sanctity of the church and to minimize interference during your service, we ask that your photographer / videographer adhere to our photography guidelines (available from the wedding coordinator).
Your marriage licence: You need to obtain an application for a marriage licence from any Provincial Licensing Agency, or from the Government of Ontario’s website . You must deliver your completed licence to the church office no later than one week before your wedding day.
The wedding rehearsal: Your one-hour wedding rehearsal, held in the church sanctuary, usually takes place in the evening (6 p.m. or later), a few days prior to the wedding. The minister and wedding coordinator are present to walk you and your wedding party through the sequence of steps and movement of people in the ceremony. It’s expected that all details of the ceremony have been finalized prior to the rehearsal.
Arriving at the church: You may arrive at the church 90 minutes prior to the start time of your ceremony. When planning your transportation to the church, be sure to allow time to find street parking spots for members of the wedding party who are driving.
After your ceremony: We ask that you refrain from marking the occasion of your wedding by throwing rice or confetti, or scattering rose petals, either inside or outside the church. You and your guests are welcome to enjoy the grounds of the church or take group photos for up to 45 minutes after the conclusion of your wedding service.
