The Pastoral Care and Congregational Life Committee
The mission of the Pastoral Care and Congregational Life Committee aims to ensure that every person matters and feels a sense of belonging, and that the joyful, loving and caring spirit of Christ shines through those who offer pastoral care. There are five areas: member care, seniors’ care, well-being and spirituality, congregational events and hospitality.

Member Care
Through the Caller Program, members receive a phone call three times a year to check in and see how they are doing, if they have concerns, and are connected with the congregation’s life and work. One of the ministers may visit those in hospital or going through difficult times as appropriate or requested. Flowers from the Sunday services are delivered to those in hospital or in care facilities. Support groups exist from time to time, such as for those dealing with cancer or grief.
Seniors’ Care
Through the Pastoral Care Team, visitors are matched with seniors confined to their homes or seniors’ care facilities and keep in touch monthly. Luncheons, which include communion or guest speakers, are held each spring and fall, and rides to church are arranged as needed. Special educational events geared for seniors are held throughout the year as well.

Well-being and Spirituality
At ESG we seek to care for the whole person – body, mind and spirit. Workshops, retreats, and educational events take place year-round. There is weekly yoga and meditation (Monday afternoons and evenings) and a walking group on Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. Several members of the congregation are trained in Therapeutic Touch, Reflexology and Reiki and offer treatments. For a booking, call Ann Schmid at 416 499-0599.
The Lower West Wing of the church is being renovated during the spring of 2006 and much of the Well-being and Spirituality ministry will take place there, beginning Fall 2006.

Congregational Events
The Committee ensures that there are several opportunities each year for the congregation to get together and build community. Examples include the Silent Movie Night, Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper and Fall BBQ.
Hospitality
Sunday morning coffee hour, receptions for funerals and memorial services, and other forms of hospitality are also considered part of caring for the congregation and its members.
