Return to Ministers

(Rev.) Don Parsons

After 39 years of ordained ministry, Don retired in June 2007, having served Port Nelson United Church in Burlington for 18 years. He has also been privileged to serve St. Andrew’s United Church in Blind River, First-St. Andrew’s in London, First United in St. Thomas and Central United in Welland. Don served as chair of the text committee which produced Voices United, the new hymn book of the United Church of Canada. He is currently a member of the Board of Management of the Queen’s School of Religion in Kingston, and is also a member of the Board of Kirkridge – an ecumenical study and retreat centre in Pennsylvania.

For three months in the fall of 2008, Don was Acting Director of the United Church’s Five Oaks Centre, while Mardi Tindal was on sabbatical.

In 2009-2010 Don served an eighteen month appointment as Minister of Worship at Eglinton St. George’s United Church in Toronto, and in June 2011 completed a four month interim ministry at Dublin St. United Church in Guelph.

In recent years, Don and his wife Marg. have been strengthened by four week-long visits to the ecumenical spiritual community of Taizé in France, and a 12 day service/learning experience among the poor in Nicaragua. Don enjoys theatre, music, photography, reading, and curling. He and Marg. have great fun with their six grandchildren, and all enjoy time at their cottage north of Goderich on Lake Huron.
