Biography
A native of Bond Head Ontario, soprano, Andrea Cerswell has been singing from a very young age. Her enjoyment of music began with a “whistle while you work” mentality as she grew up helping out with chores on her father’s dairy farm and riding horses on her grandmother’s equestrian farm.
Andrea enjoyed improving her French while completing her Bachelor of Music at McGill University, and now she is thrilled to be closer to home and family while pursuing a Masters in Opera Performance at the University of Toronto.
Ms. Cerswell’s operatic highlights include the role of Ellen in Delibes’ Lakmé, Pamina in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, Servilia in Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito, Iolanta in scenes from Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta, understudying the role of Ginevra in Handel’s Ariodante, and the role of Adina in Donizetti’s L’Elisir D’Amore. Among Andrea’s recent achievements is the premiere of the role of Cindy in a new mini-opera entitled Cindy, Lindy, and Mindy Share a Boyfriend by Scott Brubacher, as well as a performance in a new Canadian Opera, Frobisher, by John Estacio, while participating in the 2007 Opera As Theatre program at the Banff Centre. Aside from opera, Andrea was recently featured as the soprano soloist in Brampton Symphony Orchestra’s performance of Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana and has performed as the soprano soloist in Schubert’s Mass in G with Montreal’s Stuart Hall Singers.
In 2008 Andrea will perform the role of Elisetta in Cimarosa’s Il Matrimonio Segreto, participate in Toronto Operetta Theatre’s production of Carl Zeller’s Der Vogelhändler, and be featured as the soprano soloist with the Ardeleana Chamber Music Group. She is honoured to be so warmly welcomed to the ESG choir and congregation and looks forward to continuously sharing and celebrating through music.
