Biography
Mezzo-soprano Colleen Renihan was born and raised in Saskatoon, SK. Colleen received a Bachelor of Music degree in Voice Performance from the University of Manitoba and an Artist Diploma in Opera Performance from the Vancouver Academy of Music before biting the bullet and moving east to Toronto in 2005! Colleen received a Master of Arts in Musicology degree from the University of Toronto in 2007, and is currently working towards a Ph.D. dissertation on Canadian historical opera, as well as several other opera-related research projects. Colleen also works as a writer and researcher at the Canadian Music Centre.
Colleen has appeared in concert with the Istanbul and Romanian Philharmonic Orchestras, Victoria Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver Philharmonic Orchestra, Vancouver Bach Choir, and Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. She has performed on the operatic stage as in Janacek’s The Cunning Little Vixen with Pacific Opera Victoria; Mozart's Die Zauberflote with Saskatoon Opera; as well as in Puccini’s Suor Angelica, Menotti’s Amelia Goes to the Ball, Offenbach’s The Tales of Hoffmann, Strauss’ Die Fledermaus, and Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro and Cosi fan Tutte. She was in residence at Pacific Opera Victoria in 2005, and spent the summer of 2005 at the Banff Centre for the Arts performing the role of Mamma in John Estacio’s Filumena. Colleen performed Mozart’s Requiem and Vivaldi’s Gloria with the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra under conductor Howard Dyck this past summer. She is thrilled to be working with Peter Merrick and the ESG Choir, and to have such a dynamic home church at Eglinton St. George’s.
