Biography
Vancouver-born soprano Mehgan Atchison’s recent successes on the operatic and concert stage include Fiordiligi in Cosi Fan Tutte, as well as performances of John Rutter’s Magnificat, and Mozart’s Requiem. In addition, Mehgan made her Canadian Opera Company mainstage debut in the role of Mascha in The Queen of Spades. Her other operatic roles include Helena in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Mimi in La Boheme, Lisette in La Rondine, La Princesse in L’enfant et les sortileges, and Elizabeth Hughes in the world premiere of The Last Duel.

This season, Mehgan is looking forward to performing Mozart’s Coronation Mass (Krönungsmesse, K.317) with the Mississauga Choral Society under the direction of Chrys Bentley, and will be featured on the same programme singing a number of arias and scenes from Mozart operas. In April, she will repeat the Coronation Mass with The Valley Festival, and will return to the Valley to sing Schubert’s Mass in G and Mendelssohn’s Hear My Prayer in June.
Mehgan has been engaged to perform with the Victoria Symphony, Toronto’s Aldeburgh Connection, the Toronto Wagner Society, Soundstreams Canada, and at the Orford Festival. She has been heard on the CBC Radio’s Two New Hours in a performance of Mark Hyland’s afterdreamingly with Toronto’s New Music Works and can also be heard on the Juno-nominated recording of Harry Somers’ opera Serinette. During her studies at University of Toronto’s Opera Division, she was the recipient of numerous scholarships, and upon completion, she received the Distinguished Graduate Award and Scholarship from the Canadian Opera Women’s Committee.
